YTL Communications announces 'Yes Artist of the Month' programme

A new programme - 'Yes Artist of the Month' -  to provide a platform for local musicians and bands has been launched by Malaysian WiMAX firm YTL Communications, which provides 4G services called 'Yes.'

The programme will also give an opportunity for picked local artists to play live at free concerts to be held at the Yes Flagship store in the Kuala Lumpur mall Lot 10, said YTL Communications chief marketing officer Chee Pok Jin, speaking on 16 February 2012. "The "Yes Artist of the Month" showcase aims to be the platform that places talented local independent acts to the mainstream forefront while at the same time bringing the general public closer to Malaysia's thriving independent music scene."

"The Malaysian music scene is bursting at the seams with talent that has global potential but right now it lacks exposure and that's the motivation that led us to create this programme," said Chee. "We pick quality fresh acts from the local independent scene and give them a platform where they can bring their music to the forefront. The Yes Flagship Store in Lot 10 is the perfect venue for this because of the wonderful and conducive ambience, and the large amount of foot traffic that the store receives daily."

He said that in July 2011, Yes organised a pilot showcase that featured eclectic local independent band Pesawat. "The pioneer showcase was such a rousing success that the 4G operator decided to make the event a regular fixture to celebrate and actively promote Malaysia's thriving independent music scene while at the same time attract more people to check out the wonderful and unique ambience of the Yes Flagship Store in Lot 10."

"Sharing new and wonderful things with everyone is something we enjoy doing at Yes and this showcase encapsulates that spirit perfectly," said Chee. "It also helps that the management is passionate about discovering great local talent which is also something I feel very strongly about. It's great that we can combine our love for technology and music in this very unique way."
