Alcatel-Lucent is boosting the speed, performance and efficiency of Taiwan's leading communications service provider Chunghwa Telecom (CHT).
This transformation of the network will help CHT to improve its service to the residential, business and mobile broadband customers.
Alcatel-Lucent has delivered its Multi-Service Edge Router (MSER) network to CHT that will leverage it to address the demand in Taiwan for high-speed broadband access, IPTV services, mobile video and gaming.
"Alcatel-Lucent's service routers offer an ideal way for us to prepare our network for the rapid growth in demand we are seeing for high-bandwidth services like video, both at home and on the move," said a representative of Chunghwa Telecom. "Our new Multi-Service Edge Routing network is designed with tomorrow in mind Alcatel-Lucent's demonstrated commitment to continuously evolving to offer the latest capabilities have made them an ideal partner for this project."
Under the terms of the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will also provide CHT with a set of comprehensive professional services including project management, network design, installation and commissioning, software integration and operations.
Delivery of enhanced services
The MSER network is based on the state-of-the-art IP/MPLS routing technology and will support the fixed and mobile broadband network of Chunghwa Telecom (CHT).
In addition to simplifying the network structure, this network will reduce the cost of operations and build up a high service quality and reliability network.
CHT will leverage Alcatel-Lucent routers to deliver enhanced residential video and business services, such as virtual private networks, with the support of capabilities such as video optimization and 'Application Assurance.'
Alcatel-Lucent claims these routers can guarantee that services are delivered with certain specified quality levels.
"The amount of video traffic that networks are carrying has skyrocketed, and there is no end in sight," said Ken Wu, president & managing director of Alcatel-Lucent Taiwan. "The Multi-service Edge Routing network we have deployed for Chunghwa Telecom really prepares them for a future that is characterized by smart phones, tablets and other devices accessing a vast array of high-bandwidth services all the time, from anywhere."
