SINGAPORE, 23 OCTOBER 2009 Apple today (23 Oct) unveiled its iMac, MacBook and Mac mini lines in Singapore at a media preview.
While the products come with many enhanced features, the bottom line is value for money with competitive prices. Also, as green IT becomes increasingly significant, all the newly announced products are energy-efficient as they meet EPEAT Gold status and Energy Star 5.0 requirements.
While Apple's fans will be delighted with some of the new features that Apple has introduced in the new line up (iMacs, MacBooks and minis), the small and medium businesses (SMBs) can now go for Mac mini that has been developed keeping their needs in mind.
According to an Apple spokesperson, the new Mac mini is configured with Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server (two 500GB hard drives for a total of 1TB of server storage in the tiny 6.5 inch, or 16.5 cm, square by two inch, or 5 cm, tall Mac mini enclosure), is easy to set up (about 15 minutes of set up time), offers unlimited client licences with 25 per cent faster performance. It is priced at S$1,588 (US$1,140), which according to the Apple spokesperson, is highly competitive.
Also available is a cheaper, entry-level Mac mini. Starting at S$948 (US$680), the entry level Mac mini features a faster 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of DDR3 1066 MHz memory, a 160GB hard drive, five USB 2.0 ports, FireWire 800, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics and a SuperDrive. The S$1,249 (US$896) Mac mini features a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of memory and a larger 320GB hard drive.
The IT company also updated the 13.3 inch (33.8 cm) MacBook with a new, durable polycarbonate unibody design featuring a brilliant LEDbacklit display, a glass Multi-Touch trackpad a built-in battery for up to seven hours of battery life. It is available for S$1,588 (US$1,140).
The new design also includes a unique non-skid bottom surface and weighs about 2.13 kg. The new MacBook has a 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and powerful NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics.
According to Apple, the new MacBook includes Apple's innovative built-in notebook battery for up to seven hours of wireless productivity on a single charge, and up to 1,000 recharges.
Apple Singapore said the new MacBook will ship at the end of October and will be available through the Apple Store (http://store.apple.com/sg/) and Apple authorised resellers.
Apple also unveiled its new iMac with 21.5 and 27-inch displays. It features LED-backlit widescreen displays in a new edge-to-edge glass design and seamless all aluminum enclosure.
