BT (British Telecommunications) today announced the launch of a Global IP Exchange (GIPX) hub in Singapore.
According to a statement by the communications company, the new hub will provide a local switch function to the Asia Pacific region, reducing the cost of voice and data transport as well as reducing interference.
BT claims the demand for IP exchange platforms in the region has grown in recent years.
"The concentration of use (of GIPX) in Asia-Pac spurred us on to deploy this new node," said Steve Best, Wholesale managing director for products at BT. "We expect demand to continue to grow in the region which will concentrate interconnection in Singapore."
Beatriz Butsana-Sita, Global services managing director, global telecom markets at BT added, "It's the first full hub BT has deployed in Asia-Pac and demonstrates the confidence we have in the region."
BT hopes to introduce additional nodes such as the Singapore hub in the near future.
