Distribution Central has made its first foray outside of Australia, officially opening its Singapore branch.

The office will be led by ASEAN sales director, Fleur Glover.

The distributor flagged its intentions to open a Singapore office in September.

"Ultimately, Singapore will be bigger in terms of revenue than what Australia will be," Distribution Central executive chairman, Scott Frew, said. "We're making it easier for the manufacturers and integrators to supply the product, engage all the engineering resources we carry and give them more ability to deliver regionally."

Frew said it would consider jumping into other markets across Asia, but it would depend on Singapore's performance. "I don't overly invest until we know what the market looks like, and there are cultural differences that we'll have to deal with," he said. "We'll hopefully learn lots here that would add value to Australia and New Zealand."

Vendor partnerships

The distributor will be launching into the Singapore market with NetApp, AccessData, CommVault and WatchGuard under its belt. Other vendor partnerships will be announced down the track.

Managing director, Nick Verykios, said its vendors were the catalyst for expanding into Singapore.

"They're looking to us to replicate our business model in the ASEAN region as part of their own growth strategies," Verykios said.

Verykios previously boasted about his intentions to become a $200 million entity. So far, the company has grown from $22 million with 22 employees in the 2007 financial year, to $125 million with 86 employees three years later.

It has about 113 staff on its books covering Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

Distribution Central runs a number of business units including Firewall Systems, NetWorld Systems, San Systems, Unity Systems, Annuity Systems and Red Education.
