Tan Yen Yen, vice president and managing director, HP Singapore
HP recently won a major contract to provide the technology platform for Singapores Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort.
MIS Asia editor Ross O. Storey asked Tan Yen Yen, vice president and managing director, HP Singapore, about the project.
How significant for HP is winning this Marina Bay Sands contract?
This contract with the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort is a fantastic win for us. It comes at a time when Singapore is not just pursuing economic growth, strengthening our society or remaking our city, but creating a new Singapore. The city is being revitalised and the construction of Marina Bay Sands (MBS) is a key part of this plan. With this in mind, MBS is a very important win for HP as the integrated resorts is a strategic area of growth of the island state.
What details about the contract can you disclose (total cost? timeframe of project?)
Marina Bay Sands officially awarded the multi-million dollar contract to HP Singapore in July this year. HPs extensive data centre knowledge coupled with its all-in-one technology will eventually enable the solution to pay for itself.
What does the contract entail and how important will it be to the operations of the IR? Can you quantify what HP systems/technologies/devices will be deployed as part of this contract? How integral will they be to the IR operations?
Operating a casino is comparable to running a small country. The integrated entertainment destination will require 24x7 uptime and energy to power massive operations. HP will provide a converged IT solution to help run business operations for Marina Bay Sands, opening in 2010. Marina Bay Sands will feature large and flexible convention and exhibition space, about 2,500 luxury hotel rooms and suites, a breathtaking Sands SkyPark, a museum, Las Vegas-style gaming, entertainment, and an unparalleled range of shopping and dining outlets.
With HP, MBS is taking a cutting edge approach to running business efficiently. The technology platform will offer an integrated pool of resources that meets the needs of the business in minutes rather than weeks or months. The combined offering by HP will enable MBS to manage servers, networking, power and virtual machines from one central location. This enables data centre managers to quickly recover remote servers in the event of a failure and also to reduce energy costs. In order to ensure quality customer service, casinos must adopt modern technologies and make sure theres no downtime. MBS will be able to run its business more efficiently with HP.
What specific HP technologies will be involved in this contract and how extensive will they be across the IR?
