PIKOM: Designed to accelerate innovation in Malaysian ICT.
KUALA LUMPUR, 8 DECEMBER 2010 -- The National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) has launched the PIKOM Angel Chapter to accelerate innovation in the country's ICT industry, which is currently worth almost RM50 billion (almost US$16 billion), said the association.

"The Angel Chapter will comprise members from two categories, ICT members who are ICT entrepreneurs and established ICT professionals, as well as financial members who are successful entrepreneurs, and retired top government officials, along with established business management personnel, investors and venture capitalists," said PIKOM chairman, Wei Chuan Beng.

"Members or angels' will not only provide financial assistance to qualified companies but will help nurture and develop the business," said Wei.

He said that PIKOM would enlist some 100 members from both the ICT and financial categories for its Angel Chapter. "The chapter's vision is to be the largest ICT and financial angels network that inspires, nurtures and supports innovative ICT ideas and initiatives in Malaysia."

With innovation being identified as the main mechanism to improve Malaysia's competitiveness and to meet the New Economic Model and the 10th Malaysia Plan objectives, the PIKOM Angel Chapter's launch is timely and we are optimistic that our initiative will go a long way towards helping ICT companies develop and commercialise their ideas, services and products," said Wei.

We are making it easy for prospective companies to approach the Angel Chapter and have put into place a simple process. They only need to complete a three-page fact sheet, submit to us to screen and those that meet the necessary criteria will then meet directly with the angels, he said.
