Yeo Quan Yang, Ang Ming Yi and Jaryl Low Yong Yin from NUS to gain "real-world experience" at the global cybersecurity firm.

The three National University of Singapore (NUS) students-Yeo Quan Yang, Ang Ming Yi and Jaryl Low Yong Yin-who won as Team Burden the National Infocomm Security Competition (NISEC) 2014-Zero Day Defence Competition earlier this year have each been awarded a 3-month internships at McAfee, according to a statement issued by the cybersecurity firm on Friday (September 12, 2014).

NISEC 2014 saw the participation of 23 teams from six of the country's top tertiary institutions-Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University-and ran from 18 through 20 June, during which the teams underwent a boot camp programme that included round-the-clock training, web application development and the penetration challenge, which determined the winner.

McAfee, part of Intel Security, will have its solution experts provide hands-on training to Yeo, Ang and Low. The three "will be coached through specific assignments to experience different key aspects of cybersecurity," McAfee representatives said.

"McAfee believes strongly in having young talent, especially if they are passionate in learning about cyber security and have an inclination towards it," said VP of Southeast Asia for McAfee Wahab Yusoff. "The objective is to not only ignite students' interest to take on cybersecurity work, but most importantly, preparing the students with good foundation before entering the workforce."
