Telecom operator Telstra and its services unit Telstra Global have recently signed major agreements to service the network requirements of two companies.
Telstra announced that it signed a Network Application and Services (NAS) contract with Jetstar, a low-cost airline carrier in the Asia Pacific region.
Telstra, which has been working with Jetstar since 2006, will provide a dedicated managed communications services team to work across all of Jetstar's business. Telstra said the "multi-million dollar" deal is good for three years.
Led by Telstra's NAS division, the team will be responsible for Jetstar's network architecture, global procurement services, finance management, project change management, continuous improvement and interface management.
Along with its commitment to support the airline's Information Communication Technology (ICT) operations in the AP region, Telstra said it will also continue to provide domestic and global voice, mobile and data services, including multi-wide area network and global data centre services.
"By incorporating NAS as part of the new contract, there will now be a dedicated Telstra team working as an extension of our existing IT team. This puts us in a strong position to tailor our networks for future demand," said Steve Tame, chief information officer, Jetstar.
Arup global network
Telstra Global managing director and CEO Martijn Blanken said that while the AP region is "a key pillar of growth" for Telstra, the company is also expanding its services to the meet the needs of client-firms with business operations in other regions.
Recently, Telstra Global also forged a partnership with infrastructure design and construction firm Arup, which is behind key infrastructure projects such as the Sydney Opera House, Pompidou, and Olympic stadiums in Beijing and London.
Under the agreement, Telstra connectivity will be used in more than 20 markets and 50 sites across Arup's networks in Africa and Europe.
Since Arup's productivity depends on bandwidth-intense design applications, its infrastructure must be maintained to ensure that Arup's systems function securely and efficiently at all times. And this is where Telstra's services can help. Telstra provides IP VPN and Global Internet services across 65 sites in the network spanning Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa. This is to ensure fast reliable and secure delivery of corporate application traffic.
