Grab has announced cashless, credit card payment service in Asia to benefit consumers.
According to a press release, Grab has partnered global bank, Citibank, to allow consumers to pay for their Grab rides using their Citibank credit card.
Customers who sign up for any Citi credit card will receive a discount on their first ride, which is registered on Grab's mobile platform, GrabPay. Following which, they will be entitled to several free rides worth US$50.
"As customers use Grab for their regular transport needs, many of them are choosing to go cashless by adopting GrabPay for a more seamless ride experience. We are thrilled to partner Citi to extend its loyalty capabilities to make it easier to serve and reward our customers in the region," said Joel Yarbrough, Head of Payments and Commerce Product, Grab.
Furthermore, customers will be allowed to pay for Grab rides using points which they have accumulated. Citibank credit card holders who use GrabPay will receive an SMS request from Citi to redeem the ride for points. Once confirmed, the redemption will automatically be made and reflected on the customer's monthly statement.
The pay-for-ride service is first of its kind in Asia. Grab currently operates across 30 cities and the cashless payment service will commence in Singapore and Philippines first, followed by Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
