Ruckus’ analytics by way of Big Data

Wireless infra vendor claims platform is world’s first

Ruckus Wireless claims it has developed the networking world's "first massively scalable carrier class Wi-Fi   analytic platform" which will be available in the market come Q1 2014.

Development of the Ruckus SmartCell Insight announced recently in a press statement by the Sunnyvale-based vendor of wireless infrastructure solutions, asserting it is a breakthrough in analytics.

"Ruckus SmartCell Insight represents a fundamental new approach to measuring, assessing and troubleshooting large-scale Wi-Fi networks using Big Data technology and techniques," the statement said.

Large Enterprise Networks

According to the company, the technology had been developed specifically for service providers and large enterprise networks, the industry's only software based reporting, data repository and analytics engine for this purpose.

As such, "SmartCell Insight empowers network operators with essential Wi-Fi analytics to help determine the long-term health and behaviour of their Wi-Fi networks and the efficiency of the services provided over them," according to the statement.

In doing so, it can archive years of historical operational data that can be generated by up to hundreds of thousands of Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi sessions on mobile operator and large enterprise Wi-Fi networks.

Some key performance indicators (KPI) Ruckus SmartCell Insight could collect are the following:

  • Upstream and downstream traffic volumes by device or device type
  • RF or radio frequency channel capacity between access points and stations
  • Access points with the greatest traffic volumes
  • Potential client throughput
  • Number of unique clients, sessions, and session lengths
  • Response time

The statement said the Ruckus  SmartCell Insight base platform will sell for US $ 35,000 with additional access point licensing of US$ 25 for each access point," which lets  customers pay as they grow," according to the statement.
