The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) recently launched the OneMap Ideaworks! campaign to encourage the co-development of geospatial solutions.
The three-month campaign will link technologists and data scientists to community organisations to help tackle challenges related to social services, environment, health and transport.
They can do so by using OneMap's Application Programming Interface (API) services, some 300 sets of open geospatial data and data provided by the content partners, and data from organisation's own sources to develop mobile or web apps, or analytics solutions.
The set of APIs that will be provided include base maps, address search, routing and reverse. Anonymised analytics data from Starhub, satellite imagery from Planet Labs, and street view photos from Mapillary will also be provided. Besides that, Esri and Spacetime Technology have also committed to offer participants geospatial training, while Geolcon will provide open source training.
So far, SLA has gathered 60 challenge statements from 19 community and public agency partners. For instance, SG Enable is looking for tech solutions that make information on accessibility readily available to persons with disabilities. "This will help them overcome challenges in navigation and route planning... and [enable them] to lead independent lives," said Ng Herk Low, assistant chief executive, SG Enable.
Community organisations, technologists and data scientists are encouraged to submit challenge statements or register interest to develop solutions by 2 August 2017 to http://ideaworks.onemap.sg .
Participants will showcase and pit their solutions against others on 28 and 29 September 2017. Prizes totaling more than S$10,000 will be awarded to the winning teams on 12 October 2017.
