KUALA LUMPUR, 28 MARCH 2010 -- Due to rising consumer confidence in its products, German IT security solutions firm Avira GmbH says that it expects 100 per cent growth in Southeast Asia this year.
Based in Avira's Malaysia-based Southeast Asia headquarters, chief operating officer Carol Lim said the company's Avira Antivir Personal freeware, which currently has 2.3 million users in Malaysia and 10 million users in Southeast Asia, is expected to grow its consumer base to 20 million by the end of 2010.
Speaking during the launch of the company's latest AV10 versions of its freeware, Avira Antivir Personal, and paid versions Avira Antivir Premium and Avira Premium Security Suite Lim said: According to IDC's 2009 study, the IT security solutions market in Malaysia is currently worth more than US$75.4 million (RM250 million) and growing due to ongoing threats of infection from viruses, worms, phishing, rootkits, adware, spyware and Trojans which spread through office networks, the Internet and even flash drives."
It is imperative for anti-virus solutions, including the basic freeware, to exceed expectations and meet consumer demands by catching most of these threats, she said, adding that Avira products have been independently tested by Austrian non-profit organisation AV- Comparatives. [Our products were] found to have the best scanning speed, detection rate and performance of any anti-virus solution currently on the market.
German firm Avira GmbH, which offers IT security solutions for professional and private use, has its Southeast Asia regional office in Malaysia. Domestic and international customers include companies listed on global stock exchanges, educational establishments and government authorities. In addition to protecting the virtual environment, Avira promotes the Auerbach Foundation for greater protection and security in the real world. The Auerbach Foundation supports charitable and social projects, as well as art, culture and science.
Plans in the region
Also present during the launch of the new product suite, the Malaysian deputy minister of science, technology and innovation (MOSTI) Y.B. Tuan Haji Fadillah Yusof added that the company was in talks with the government on contributing to the national initiative for safety in cyberspace.
