Singapore supermarket enhances shopping experience with technology

Smart trolleys, self-weighing and self-checkout system available

The self-checkout system is aimed at reducing the queuing times of time-pressed consumers, but is currently unable to accept cash payment, unlike certain high-tech supermarkets in Australia and the United Kingdom.

The technology-enabled supermarket concept is currently in its pilot phase in Singapore. The coming year will see Market Place's management gauging consumers' response towards such a concept, before deciding if its other outlets will be similarly equipped.
