There are also several works on obtaining powders of CaB6

Known methods for preparing hexaborides of alkaline earth metals include the direct reaction of metals and boron at high temperature and pressure, reduction of CaO and B2O3 by carbon (carbothermic) or metals, gas-phase reduction methods, and mechanochemical synthesis. There are also several works on obtaining powders of CaB6 by electrolysis of molten salts: Uchida,[8] Wang and Zhai, Angappan et al. As a result, CaB6 was obtained by electrodeposition in molten CaCl2-NaCl. The difference is that the working temperature is lower (600 C and 700 C), while the solubility of calcium borate in CaCl2-NaCl was lower than in CaCl2 (the present paper). In work, hexaboride calcium was synthesized at a temperature of 900 C due to the electrolysis of the molten salt. In this work, a CaO-B2O3-LiF melt was used to synthesize in an argon atmosphere.

In contrast to this work, we performed electrolysis in an air atmosphere. Furthermore, corrosive active alkali metal fluorides, for example, in papers, were not used by us. The closest to our work is the author Yin et al. on producing CaB6 powder as an anode material in primary galvanic cells of high capacity. The raw material for the synthesis was a compressed tablet of CaB2O4 metaborate in contact with the molybdenum cathode, the CaCl2-NaCl melt, and operating temperatures of 600 C and 700 C were used as the electrolyte. It took 20 hours to restore the CaB2O4 tablet to CaB6 completely; the current yield was not described. It was probably shallow, and the mechanism of borate reduction appears to be the secondary chemical. The process of obtaining hexaboride in Reference 13 proved to be too slow, one-time, or interrupted, and therefore, it cannot be the basis for industrial technology.
