What are Nickel alloys?
Nickel alloys consist of nickel as a base with other elements added. The Monel alloy produced around 1905, which contains about 30% copper, is an earlier nickel alloy. Nickel has good mechanical, physical, and chemical properties, adding appropriate elements can improve its oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength and improve some physical properties. Nickel alloys can be used as electronic tube materials, precision alloys, nickel-based superalloys, and shape memory alloys, etc. Nickel alloys are widely used in energy development, chemicals, electronics, navigation, aviation, and aerospace sectors.

Nickel Alloy applications:
Nickel alloys powder is the original material for 3D printing. Nickel alloys have good tensile strength, fatigue resistance, and fracture resistance. It has creep resistance at high temperatures up to 700°C. It is easy to weld and has excellent corrosion resistance. In addition, Nickel alloys can be heat treated. Due to their comprehensive properties, Nickel alloys can be widely used in various applications, such as liquid fuel rockets, rings and casings, various formed sheet metal parts for aircraft and land-based gas turbine engines, cryogenic storage tanks, and fastening Parts and instrument parts. Nickel alloys have excellent heat resistance, so it is very suitable for high-temperature applications, including gas turbine and aerospace applications. Other applications include pumps and measuring probes in energy and process technology.
Functions of adding elements to nickel
The added alloying elements fall into two categories: one is solid solution strengthening elements that can form a solid solution with nickel, such as copper, cobalt, iron, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, manganese, etc. The other is the element that forms intermediate compound strengthening phase with nickel, such as aluminum, silicon, beryllium, titanium, zirconium, hafnium, vanadium, niobium, and tantalum.
In addition, trace elements such as rare earth elements, boron, magnesium, calcium, strontium, and barium are sometimes added for specific purposes and use. The strength, hardness, shock resistance, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, high-temperature strength, and some physical properties, such as magnetism, thermoelectric potential, and resistance coefficient, are increased obviously when reinforcing solution and strengthening element is added to nickel, while the expansion coefficient, thermoelectric potential, and resistance temperature coefficient of copper are decreased greatly. The properties of nickel, especially the mechanical properties at high temperature, corrosion resistance, and some physical properties, will be further improved when alloying elements can form a strengthening phase in nickel.
The addition of trace elements in the alloy can eliminate the adverse effects of harmful impurities on the properties of the alloy, make the alloy obtain some special physical properties, and strengthen the grain boundary of the alloy, to ensure that the alloy products have better service effect and longer service life.
