실리콘 카바이드 (SiC) is a covalent ceramic made up of silicon and carbon atoms set up in a tetrahedral latticework, primarily in hexagonal (4H, 6H) or cubic (3기음) polytypes, each showing phenomenal atomic bond toughness.

The Si– C 본드, with a bond energy of around 318 kJ/mol, is amongst the greatest in architectural porcelains, giving exceptional thermal security, firmness, and resistance to chemical assault.

This robust covalent network results in a material with a melting point going beyond 2700 ℃(sublimes), making it one of the most refractory non-oxide ceramics readily available for high-temperature applications.

Unlike oxide porcelains such as alumina, SiC keeps mechanical strength and creep resistance at temperatures over 1400 ℃, where many metals and conventional ceramics begin to soften or deteriorate.

Its reduced coefficient of thermal growth (~ 4.0 × 10 ⁻⁶/K) integrated with high thermal conductivity (80– 120 승/(m·K)) enables fast thermal cycling without devastating splitting, an essential attribute for crucible performance.

These inherent buildings come from the well balanced electronegativity and similar atomic sizes of silicon and carbon, which promote an extremely stable and largely packed crystal framework.

1.2 Microstructure and Mechanical Resilience

Silicon carbide crucibles are commonly made from sintered or reaction-bonded SiC powders, with microstructure playing a definitive duty in durability and thermal shock resistance.

Sintered SiC crucibles are created via solid-state or liquid-phase sintering at temperature levels above 2000 ℃, often with boron or carbon additives to boost densification and grain limit cohesion.
