What is boron nitride powder?

Boron nitride powder, also known as BN powder, is an inorganic material that exhibits exceptional physical and chemical properties. It is composed of boron and nitrogen atoms in a 1:1 ratio, with a chemical formula of BN. The powder is white, loose, and soft with a smooth feel. Boron nitride powder is thermally and chemically stable, with a high melting point around 3000°C (in an inert atmosphere) and excellent electrical insulation, thermal conductivity, chemical resistance, and lubricity.

It is used in various applications such as a catalyst in organic dehydrogenation, platinum reforming, and synthetic rubber production, as a release agent for glass microspheres and metal forming, as a lubricant for metal wire drawing, as a high-temperature electrolyte and resistor material, as a thermal sealant for transistors, and as an additive in polymers like plastics and resins.

Due to its inertness, boron nitride powder is physically harmless but can be harmful if inhaled as a dust. Therefore, proper safety measures should be taken when handling this material.

Hexagonal boron nitride can also be called white graphite. The hexagonal boron layer and nitrogen in hexagonal boren nitride overlap each other, forming a crystal. Purity: 99%

Particle size: 100nm (or 500nm), 3-5um

Boron Nitride Powder

White graphite is a non-abrasive powder with hexagonal platy crystalline structure. It has similar properties to graphite but a higher oxidation resistant at 800oC.

Boron Nitride thermal Conductivity

BN also has a very low coefficient of traction, a high dielectric value, and is chemically non-reactive.

Industrial powder containing boron is white and has a hexagonal crystalline structure that is similar to graphite.

Boron nitride melting point

It is 2973 oC.

The dielectric strength can be as high as 1000 volts/mil, depending on the grade. Hot-pressed billets can be easily shaped into rods and bars.

Applications of
Boron Nitride BN Powder:

Hexagonal boran nitride has a white appearance (clean), is non-toxic, as well as non-conductive. It is an ideal substitute for lubricants used in metal processing such as molybdenum, graphite, organic wax, and oil. In many cases, boron-nitride will improve the performance of these applications.

It is used as an additive for ceramic composites, an extrusion antiwear, or a high temperature solid lubricant.

Useful for electrolysis and resistance material under high temperature conditions.

Thermal insulation material used in aerospace

It is used as a release agent in metal forming, and a lubricant when drawing metal wire.

It is used for the crucible of molten metal, as well as a radiator and insulator at high temperatures.

As a raw ingredient for cosmetics.

Boron nitride coating

This release agent is ideal for protecting the surface from oxidation of graphite components and forming an anti-stick, non-wetting lubricant layer on their surface.
