Google Pixel 6 faces sensor issues, breaking auto-rotate

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 pro may still be almost fresh out of the oven, but their novelty wearing on some users forced to deal with annoying bugs on their phones won't be the case, and this series appears to be a car lineup Google has yet to announce.

According to Android PolicePort, two of Google's latest flagship phones have nasty bugs in their software, with the auto-rotation feature on the device seemingly taking the biggest hit.
The Android December patch has lived long enough to take care of some of the major flaws in the series but hasn't solved all of the problems by repeating the auto-rotate issue, of course, rendering users unable to get the phone screen to flip sideways or back to a vertical position.
The problem appears to stem from a communication failure between the Pixel 6's onboard physical sensors and software. At times, the device seems unable to read the data provided by these sensors (i.e., gyroscopes, accelerometers, and compasses). This was discovered by running tests using the Sensor Test application and finding that feedback from sensors sometimes failed.
Gyroscopes and accelerometers detect when the screen automatically flips, and since the system can't read the data provided by these sensors, the device has no way of knowing whether your phone is in a vertical or horizontal position.
Pixel 6 and 6 Pro users also complain that their phones often don't correctly display the direction they're facing on a map when using navigation apps like Google Maps. The little pointer was either spinning in all directions or pointing in a stationary wrong direction, making it harder for them to figure out how to get from point A to point B.
This, along with the auto-rotation bug, is due to a lack of feedback from the compass sensors inside the device.
So far, there have been no issues from Google in these persistent sensor-related issues, but hopefully, the tech giant is already working hard to prepare another Android patch for the Pixel 6 series to address what could be some of the most frustrating (albeit small) bugs once and for all!
