HONOR Magic5 Pro- first silicon carbon negative battery

HONOR Magic5 Pro the world's first silicon carbon negative battery: 5450mAh large capacity

Beijing time on the evening of February 27, HONOR in Barcelona MWC 2023 (Mobile World Congress) officially released the HONOR Magic5 series, in the image, battery, communication, performance and other aspects to bring upgrades.

It is understood that the HONOR Magic5 Pro world's first silicon carbon-negative battery technology, launch a battery capacity of up to 5450mAh long-endurance version.

To improve the battery life experience, the Honor Magic5 Pro uses low-voltage aggregation technology to significantly improve the efficiency of charge usage at low voltage, allowing the new silicon carbon negative electrode battery to release 240% more power than ordinary graphite batteries at low voltage.

As for the screen, the Honor Magic5 Pro features a 6.81-inch OLED screen with the latest technology from Visionox Low Power Solutions, a resolution of 1312*2824, a PPI of 461, support for DCI-P3 wide color gamut, 1.07 billion color display, color accuracy ΔE≈0.27, and support for 1-120Hz LTPO adaptive dynamic refresh rate.

With 1300nit global maximum brightness, and 1800nit peak brightness, it support up to 2160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.

Visionox said that the Honor Magic 5 Pro uses two innovations in Visionox's low-power solution, "the second generation of screen light-gathering technology (HLEMS)" and "Hybrid-TFT" technology, which reduces comprehensive power consumption by nearly 10%.

In addition, BOE also said that HONOR Magic 5 Pro uses its flexible OLED screen, the industry's first to carry LTPO + Tandem technology, local peak brightness can exceed 1600nit, power consumption is reduced by 20%, the life of 300-400%.

What is silicon carbon-negative battery material?

Silicon cathode battery is a new type of high-performance battery which uses silicon as the cathode material and can replace the traditional carbon cathode battery. The silicon cathode battery features greater capacity, better discharge performance, and longer cycle life than traditional carbon cathode batteries. In the charged state, the capacity of silicon cathode battery can reach 2-3 times of a carbon cathode battery with the same weight. In addition, the battery also has good low-temperature performance, its discharge capacity at -10°C can reach more than 90%, while the traditional carbon cathode battery is only 50%. The negative silicon electrode battery is an alternative to traditional batteries because of its unrestricted import, safety and reliability, and environmental protection. Silicon-negative electrode batteries will play an important role in smart devices, drones, electric vehicles, and other fields.

The advantages of the new silicon carbon cathode battery as an anode material

Silicon is the most promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries, with the highest specific capacity (4200mAh/g) ever discovered by mankind. The problems of silicon anode material include low cycle life, large volume change, and continuous appearance of SEI film while silicon carbon lithium-ion battery anode material can effectively improve these problems, so silicon carbon anode material is undoubtedly the focus of future development of anode material.

The mass specific capacity of silicon material can reach up to 4200mAh/g, which is much larger than the 372mAh/g of carbon material and is the highest theoretical specific capacity known to be able to be used for anode materials. Moreover, silicon materials are environmentally friendly, abundant and low-cost. However, the problems of silicon anode materials include low cycle life, large volume change, and continuous appearance of SEI film while silicon carbon lithium-ion battery anode materials can effectively improve these problems, so silicon carbon anode materials are the focus of future development of anode materials without a doubt.

With the development of battery electrode materials, lithium-ion battery technology has been rapidly developed. At present, lithium-cobalt batteries have been extended to the ternary systems, lithium manganate, lithium iron phosphate, silicon carbon anode and other battery systems. The new silicon-carbon anode lithium-ion battery breaks through the inherent limitations of graphite as an anode, and its performance is significantly better than that of traditional lithium-ion batteries. It has become one of the most promising energy storage batteries.

Because the silicon-carbon anode material has a high lithium insertion potential, it prevents the formation and precipitation of lithium metal during the sintering process, and because the equilibrium potential is higher than the reduction potential of most electrolyte solvents, it does not form a passivation film with the electrolyte, at the solid-liquid interface, preventing many side reactions and greatly improving the safety, safety, and stability are the most important indicators in the sintering process of lithium materials.

The total production of former silicon-carbon anode materials is still less than 1% of lithium anode materials, but with the expansion of major anode companies and the rise of new companies, silicon-carbon materials are expected to officially enter the market in large quantities at the end of 2019. Silicon carbon anode material is the most potential application of future lithium-ion battery anode materials, which shows how large the market capacity of silicon carbon anode materials, which also explains why there are many companies and research units layout silicon carbon anode materials.
