Jeweler’s rouge iron oxide

What is iron oxide?

Iron oxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Fe2O3. It is one of the three principal oxides of iron, the other two being the less common ferrous oxide (FeO); And ferric oxide (Fe3O4), which also occurs naturally as the mineral magnetite. Iron oxide, also known as hematite, is the primary source of iron in steel smelting. Acids quickly erode it. Iron oxide is often referred to as rust, and in some cases, there is no problem with saying this because rust has several properties in common and is of similar composition. To chemists, rust is an ill-defined substance known as hydrated iron oxide.

Iron oxide hydrate

There are several hydrates in iron oxide. A reddish-brown gel precipitate was formed when alkali was added to the soluble iron () salt solution. This is not Fe(OH)3, but Fe2O3·H2O (also written as Fe(O)OH). Hydrates are also present in several crystalline forms of iron oxide. Red iron gamma-Fe (O)OH appears outside the rust layer, while an orange icon appears inside. When Fe2O3· H2O is heated, it loses its binding water. Further heating at 1670 K converts Fe2O3 to black Fe3O4(FeIIFeIII2O4), known as mineral magnetite. Fe(O)OH is soluble in acid to produce [Fe(H2O)6]3+. In concentrated alkaline solution, Fe2O3 forms [Fe(OH)6]3−.

Application of iron oxide

Surface polish: A fine iron oxide powder is known as "Jeweler's Rouge," "Red Rouge," or simply rouge. It was used to give a final finish to metal jewelry and lenses and was historically used as a cosmetic product. Iron oxide cuts more slowly than some modern polishes, such as cerium oxide. However, it is still used in optical manufacturing and the jewelry industry because of the excellent finish it can produce. When polishing gold, the rouge will slightly contaminate the gold, affecting the finished product's appearance. Rouge is sold in powder, paste, polished cloth, or solid sticks (with wax or grease binder). Other polishing materials are also often called "rouge," even if they do not contain iron oxide—jewelry commercial ultrasonic cleaning to remove residual rouge on jewelry. Products marketed as "scraping compounds" are commonly used for leather scraping to help get a sharp edge on a knife, straight razor, or any other edging tool.

Price of iron oxide

Iron oxide particle size and purity will affect the product's Price, and the purchase volume can also affect the cost of Iron oxide. A large amount of large amount will be lower. The Price of iron oxide is on our company's official website.
