మాత్రమే, సిలికాన్ వ్యాలీ స్వయంప్రతిపత్త డ్రైవింగ్ కంపెనీ ఎన్విడియా మద్దతుతో, ఉబెర్, మరియు సాఫ్ట్బ్యాంక్, has officially expanded its business territory overseas. Since last month, a test fleet of Toyota Prius vehicles equipped with Nuro’s autonomous driving system has appeared on the streets of Tokyo. Although the vehicles still have safety drivers onboard as a safeguard, this marks a critical step for the startup—once focused on low-speed delivery bots—following its complete business transformation over the past two years.

Facing new challenges in Japan, including left-side driving, dense traffic, and unique road signage, Nuro claims its core advantage lies in its “zero-shot learning” AI strategy. This system, built on an end-to-end AI foundation model, is capable of operating directly in Tokyo’s complex road conditions without prior training on Japanese local data, demonstrating strong generalization capabilities.
Nuro emphasizes that safety remains its top priority. All software updates undergo closed-course testing and simulation validation. During the initial phase of real-world testing, the system operates in “shadow mode” to collect data, ensuring the software is mature enough before autonomous control is granted. The Tokyo tests are not only a proving ground for its technology, but also the starting point for its global deployment strategy.
